Shared with me collects the documents other people have handed you, so a link a colleague sent last week is still easy to find this week. It sits in the Explorer sidebar's Overview group, just below the Timeline, and its row shows a count of how many documents are there.
How a document gets here
When you open a share link that someone sent you, that document is remembered and added to Shared with me. You do not have to do anything extra: opening the link once is enough. Until you have opened one, the section says Nothing shared with you yet.
Opening a link to one of your own documents doesn't add it, and documents in your teams live in the team's space; they only show up here if you open one through a share link.
Reading the list
Shared with me is a table, with the documents you opened most recently first:
- Name, with a picture of the document. Click it to open the document on its share link, no need to dig the original link out of your messages.
- Owner: whose document it is (hidden on a phone, to save room).
- Role: Edit, Participate or View, the access the share link gives you.
- Updated: when the document last changed.
Type in the Explorer's search box to filter the list.
Dismissing a document
Click the × at the end of a row (Dismiss), or choose Dismiss in the document's ⋯ menu, then confirm with Remove when you are done with a document. That only removes it from your Shared with me list; it does not affect the document or anyone else's access. Open the share link again and it comes back.
When a document disappears by itself
The list only offers documents you can still open. If the owner revokes the link, it expires, the owner turns sharing off, or the document goes to the Trash, the document drops off the list. If the owner shares it again and you open the new link, it returns.
Guests and signing in
Shared with me works without an account: the list is kept for this browser's guest identity. It is stored on the server rather than in the browser, so it is the same wherever you are signed in, and signing up carries a guest's list into your new account.
