Your account lives in Settings, under Account. When you are signed in, the account button at the top right of the Explorer and the editor (your profile picture, or your initial, with your first name) opens a menu with your name and email, Account and Sign out. Pick Account and Settings opens on the right place. You can also open Settings from its gear and choose Account in the list.
It used to be a separate Profile page in the Explorer. Everything it held now sits in Settings alongside the rest of your preferences, so there is one place to look rather than two.
What it shows
Account opens on your identity card: your picture (or the same initial as the account button), your name, your email address, and the date you joined. It only displays this identity: your name, email and picture come from your account, and are changed there rather than here. As a guest, the card says you are working as a guest and offers to sign in.
Below it:
- Show My Profile Picture (signed in only) decides whether signed-in collaborators see your picture on presence, cursors, comments and teams. People on your share links who are not signed in always see your initials.
- Trash opens your deleted documents; see Trash.
- Google Drive, when the deployment offers it, connects a Drive folder that mirrors your documents; see Google Drive.
API Tokens sits in its own list entry under Account; see API Tokens.
Email notifications
Notifications, listed under Account, has an Email section with a switch for every optional email: Someone Joins My Document, Someone Responds to a Team Invite, Someone Comments on My Document, Someone Assigns Me an Action, Someone Mentions Me in a Comment, Tips and Check-Ins, and Milestones. The whole row is the switch, so click anywhere on it to flip it. The switches are saved to your account and apply wherever you sign in. See Email Notifications for what each kind of email contains and when it sends.
The email switches only appear when the deployment can send mail and you are signed in. A guest sees a note asking them to sign in to choose their emails, since without an address the switches could never apply. The same page also holds In-Editor Notifications, which works for everyone.
Danger zone
Account ends with a Danger Zone holding the Delete Account button. It opens a confirmation dialog that asks you to type your email address, a deliberate speed bump before anything irreversible happens. Confirming permanently removes your documents (the Trash included), folders and the rest of your data from the server, then deletes the account itself and signs you out. This cannot be undone. For deleting a single document, or how guest data is scoped, see Deleting Your Data.
Signed-in feature
Deleting removes the data held against a verified account, so it needs one: the row is still shown to guests, saying it is only available once you are signed in, with a link to sign in, rather than hiding. A guest's documents belong to their browser, and Deleting Your Data covers clearing those.
You do not have to go looking for the notification switches: every optional email carries a "Manage your notifications" link in its footer that opens Settings on this same section.
