Image Gallery

Every image you have uploaded, in one place, with a 'used in' badge so you can spot and clear the ones nothing references.

The Image gallery lives under Library in the Explorer sidebar's More group and collects every image you have uploaded. It is the companion to placing images on the canvas: the canvas is where you use them, and the gallery is where you manage them. Images you bring in with an import (draw.io, Microsoft Whiteboard, Excalidraw), and pictures you pick from the image search, land here too.

What it shows

Each image appears as a card with its name, its size in pixels and on disk, and a badge saying where it is used:

  • Used in 2 documents (or however many) means a document of yours still shows it. Click the badge to list those documents, each a link that opens it.
  • Not used means none of your documents points at it, so it is usually safe to delete.

Each card shows the image, its size, a delete button and a badge saying where it is used.

To add an image, drop it, paste it, or click the Drop, paste, or click to upload an image area at the top. It uses the same checks as uploading from the canvas: one image can be up to 10 MB, and an image you already have is not stored twice.

Deleting images

Press the bin on a card to delete an image and reclaim the space. The confirmation tells you what will happen: if the image is still used in one or more documents, it warns that those images will show as broken afterwards; otherwise it says the image will be removed for good. Either way, a deleted image cannot be brought back.

Automatic cleanup of unused images

You do not have to keep on top of this by hand. Once a day, livediagram removes uploads that are both more than 30 days old and used in no document, freeing the storage automatically. The 30-day window is deliberately generous: an image you uploaded recently, or one any document still references, is always left alone, so a picture you have not placed on the canvas yet is never swept out from under you. An image in use stays put no matter how old it is.

Everyone does, signed in or not. A guest's gallery belongs to their browser, like their documents, and moves to their account when they sign up. The gallery is also reachable from the editor's Explorer panel, under the same Library row.

On livediagram.app a gallery holds up to 100 images and 100 MB in total; a self-hosted copy sets its own limits, or none. If image uploads are turned off for a deployment, the gallery says "Image uploads are not enabled on this deployment." rather than failing silently.

The Not used badge only checks your own documents. The daily cleanup will eventually clear unused uploads for you, but deleting one yourself reclaims the space straight away rather than waiting out the 30-day window.
