Explorer Panel

The Explorer inside the editor: browse your library and open another document without leaving the one you are in.

The Explorer panel is the Explorer inside the editor. Press the menu button (☰) in the top-left corner of the canvas and it opens under the button; press the button again, or click anywhere outside, and it closes. It holds the same sections as the full-page Explorer, so you can browse your library, catch up on what happened and open another document without leaving the canvas you are on.

What the panel shows

  • Current Document at the top is the document you are in: its thumbnail, its name, when it was last saved, its visibility badge (Private, Shared, Team, Public or Local only) at the right, and its ⋯ menu. Click the name to rename it in place: Enter saves, Escape keeps the old name. Hover the badge to see who can see the document.
  • The rail down the left lists every section, grouped as on the Explorer page: Overview (Home, Inbox, Timeline, Shared with me), Spaces (My documents and each team) and More (This browser, when documents are saved only here, then Library and Trash).
  • The pane on the right shows the section you pick. Nothing sends you away from the editor: Home, the Inbox, the Timeline, the Library (Image gallery, Themes and Shape libraries) and the Trash all open right there. My documents, each team, This browser and Shared with me list their folders and documents, each document with its thumbnail and when it was last updated; a folder opens right there in the pane, with a path above it back to where you started, and picking a document opens it in the editor. Open Page at the top of the pane takes that section to the full Explorer, and New Folder makes a folder in My documents or the team you are looking at.
  • The panel opens on Home (the documents you were last in, and what others did since) and then remembers the section you last picked.
  • Along the foot are the product's other places: Home, Explorer, Community and Help.

The Explorer panel open under the menu button: the Current Document card, the rail of sections, and My documents in the pane.

It is the same data as the full page: folders, ownership, and sharing all behave identically. Each document has the document menu from its ⋯ button, a right-click, or Shift+F10, so Change Folder, Favourite and Hide from Recent work here as well. A document saved only in this browser carries the Local only pill (Offline Mode). Drag one of your own documents onto one of your folders to file it, or onto My documents in the rail to put it back at the root.

The keyboard works as on the Explorer page: in the rail, Up and Down move between sections and Enter picks one; in the pane, Up and Down move between rows and Enter opens one. Answering team invites and creating a team happen in the full Explorer.

The ⋯ button in the panel's header, beside the help button, opens a menu with New Document and Open Explorer (the full-page library), then Share and Export for the document you are in, then Search, GitHub (the open-source code), Licences and Settings. With power user mode's Minimal chrome on, the help button moves into this menu as Help.

When you will see it

  • In the editor, to jump to another document without going back to the library. Zen mode hides the menu button with the rest of the chrome.
  • On a phone, the menu button sits in its own card at the left of the palette strip, and the panel opens under it across the screen: the sections become a row of chips you swipe sideways, with the picked one's pane beneath.
  • When a document can't be opened, it stays available beside the error screen, so you can pick another document.

Like everywhere else in the Explorer, the panel works whether or not you are signed in, showing the documents your browser or account owns.
