While a vote is open, every votable element carries a small − 0 + counter in its bottom-right corner.
Spending and taking back
Press + to add one of your dots and − to take one back. Clicking the element itself also adds a dot, which is quicker when you are working through a wall of stickies. Stacking several dots on one element is allowed, each counting separately, unless the vote was started with One each under Dots per item: then each of your dots must go on a different element. For an Editor, the Vote button in the bottom bar keeps count: its badge shows how many dots you have left, and the Vote panel above it says so in words, like "2 of 3 dots left".
The counter starts at zero, so you can always see which elements are in play and how many dots each has. − greys out when none of the dots on it are yours, and + once your budget is spent (or, under One each, once you have a dot on that element), rather than disappearing, so the buttons stay where your pointer expects them.
Once the vote ends the buttons go and the counter becomes a plain tally, since at that point it is a result to read rather than something to change.
What can take a dot
Votable elements are shapes, sticky notes, and images. Section backdrops (frames), text, freehand drawings, tables, arrows, and annotations are not votable, so you vote on the ideas, not the scaffolding around them. Nor are elements that do something when pressed (mode buttons, portals, session buttons, reveal zones, pickers and reaction pads), or comment and action panels. If the vote is limited to one layer, only that layer's elements count.
On a tab with Plan boards, the cards take the dots: each card the boards show carries the counter in its corner (a card shown on two boards is one card, with one count), while the boards themselves, and Plan views, take none, so you can still work the board during the vote. A card face down on a board that hides writing takes no dots until it is revealed. When the host ends the vote, each card keeps the dots it gathered, for Top Voted and the card's ▲ count.
Casting needs an Editor or Participant role: someone on a Viewer share link sees the tallies but can't add a dot.
Non-votable elements show no counter and still select and move normally. Pressing a votable element casts a dot rather than selecting it.
