Quick Controls

The always-available actions tucked into the corner of the editor.

The quick controls sit at the right-hand end of the bottom bar, after the tab bar's tabs, and gather the actions you want reachable at any moment, whatever you are doing on the canvas. They stay put while the rest of the interface comes and goes with your selection, and a matching cluster appears at the bottom of the full-page Explorer, so the two screens don't hide their controls in different places.

What lives here

Three controls, left to right:

  • Search: open the search panel to jump to any document, tab, or element, to drop something onto the canvas, or to run a command. ⌘K (Ctrl+K) opens it from the keyboard.
  • Settings: the Settings dialog: the preferences that follow you between devices, plus the Keyboard category with the full shortcut reference and the switch that turns shortcuts off.
  • Appearance: click to step the interface between Light, Dark, and System (System follows your device). This is the app's own chrome, not the diagram's theme, which lives behind the Theme & canvas button in the bottom-right corner. In power user mode a click flips straight between light and dark instead.

The Explorer's cluster also carries a link to livediagram's source on GitHub, on a computer.

On a computer each control in the editor's bar shows its name beside the icon (the appearance switch names the mode in force: Light, Dark, or System), and hovering one shows what it does. On a phone the bar is tight, so the controls are icons only; with Minimal Chrome on in power user mode they are icons only everywhere.

Because they are fixed in the corner rather than tied to a selection, the quick controls are the dependable starting point when you are not sure where an action lives: search finds both things and commands.
