The AI Assistant panel has two modes, picked from the buttons at the top: Ask and Clean. Both use the same prompt box, but they treat the diagram differently: Ask only reads the diagram, Clean changes it. If the panel isn't on your canvas, see AI Assistance for how to turn it on.
Sending a request
Type into the prompt box and press Send, or press ⌘Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux). With Suggested Prompts on, each mode also offers a few one-click prompts, such as "Summarise this diagram" for Ask or "Fix spelling" for Clean, which send straight away.
Ask: questions, no changes
Ask answers questions about the diagram without touching it. Use it to get your bearings on a diagram someone else made, or to check your own: "what happens if the payment fails?" or "which steps have no outgoing arrow?". The answer streams into the panel as text, and nothing on the canvas changes.
Ask remembers the last few exchanges, so you can follow up ("and which of those is the riskiest?") without repeating yourself. Clear context forgets them, and switching to another tab starts afresh.
Clean: tidy what's there
Clean works on what is already on the tab. It fixes label typos and normalises sizes, positions, and styles so a diagram that grew messily reads consistently. The prompt is optional: leave it blank for a general tidy, or say what you want ("Even out the box sizes"). Clean leaves colours alone; the tab's theme sets them. Clean respects your layout rather than re-flowing it, and it never changes what an element is (a checklist stays a checklist, a diamond stays a diamond), so it is the safe choice once a diagram is arranged the way you like.
While it works, the panel shows how many elements it has processed so far. When it finishes, the changes land in a single step, so one Undo (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z) reverses the whole operation.
If you want the layout itself recomputed from the arrows, use Auto Layout instead: it is instant, works offline and needs no AI.
Focus and context
Whatever the mode, the assistant only ever sees the active tab. If you have elements selected when you send a request, those are marked as the focus: Clean concentrates its edits there while still seeing the rest of the tab, so an arrow whose other end sits outside the selection stays connected correctly, and Ask answers about the selection in context. With nothing selected, the whole tab is fair game. The Context line above the prompt box shows which it will use.
Prompts over 1,000 characters are refused, so think of each request as one clear instruction. If a result is not quite right, undo it, adjust the prompt and send again rather than stacking corrections into one long message.
