Virtual Office

Rooms, a meeting table, plants, shelves, a water cooler, a coffee machine and rugs: everything a team needs to walk round an office together.

Seven pieces turn a canvas into an office your team walks round in Avatar mode. With chairs, desks and sofas, fences and speech bubbles, you can lay out a reception, desks, a meeting room, a kitchen and a lounge, then sit, talk and grab a coffee together.

They're in the palette's Navigate category, one of the six Collaborate categories, in the Facilitate mode palette. Like all furniture, every piece is drawn standing up, the way you'd see it walking in.

Room

Four walls round a floor, with a doorway and the room's name on its back wall.

  • Walls block: characters walk round a room and in through its doorway, never through a wall.
  • The doorway is in the front wall to start with. Right-click the room and open Room to move it to the Top, Right, Bottom or Left wall, or choose None for a closed room you can only reach through a Portal.
  • The name is the room's label: double-click to rename it "Kitchen" or "Meeting Room 2".
  • A new room goes behind everything on the tab, so furniture you've already placed stands on its floor. Resize it to any shape; the walls stay the same thickness.

Meeting Table

A table with six chairs round it. Walk your character in and it sits on the seat nearest where you came from, facing the table. The people sitting there show in a pill above it.

Plant and Bookshelf

Scenery that makes an office feel lived in. Characters walk round a plant's pot and along the front of a bookshelf, never through them.

Water Cooler and Coffee Machine

Walk your character up to one and it gets a drink: a cup of water or a steaming coffee, held in its hand for a minute, with a sip every few seconds. The machine bubbles or drips as it pours. Everyone else sees your cup too, and you keep it if you sit down. Nothing is saved: the cup is gone when you leave Avatar mode.

Rug

A rug on the floor, in any colour you like, to mark out a lounge or a reception. It goes behind everything, like a room, and never gets in anyone's way.

Who can do what

  • Editors place, move, rename and recolour every piece, and set a room's doorway.
  • Everyone walking in Avatar mode, including someone on a view-only link, sits at tables and takes drinks.
