A Pointer Note is a short note with a line out to a dot. Use it for a remark about one spot of a diagram: "stale for 60 s here", "this is where it fails", "rate limited". The dot pins to a point on a shape, so the note keeps pointing at the right place when the diagram moves.
It sits in the palette's Write category, after Annotation.
Pointing it
Select the note and its dot shows a handle. Drag the handle to where the note is about:
- Let go near one of a shape's eight points (its corners and the middles of its edges) and the dot attaches there.
- Let go anywhere else and the dot stays where you left it.
From the keyboard, focus the handle and the arrow keys nudge the dot (hold Shift for bigger steps).
Once attached, moving, resizing or rotating the shape carries the note along. Moving the note itself leaves the dot on its point and the line re-runs, so you can tidy notes out of the way without losing what they point at. Copying or deleting the shape takes its pointer notes with it.
To free the dot, right-click the note and choose Detach in its Pointer Note section.
A pointer note always stays upright: it has no Rotation, since turning the note would swing its line off the point it marks.
Styling it
A new note is amber, the colour of a remark. Its Colours, Border and text controls work as on any shape, and the line and dot take the border colour. Double-click to edit the words.
With the Pulse animation, the dot pulses too: a ring spreads from it, drawing the eye to the spot.
